Bread
The most obvious food traditionally provided for birds, bread, along with other grain-based products such as cake and biscuits, does have considerable value, with brown preferable to white. Additionally some cereals obtainable from bird food specialists, notably oats and wheat, are useful sources of carbohydrates. If bread is supplied in large pieces, it is likely to be carried off by larger birds such as crows and gulls, unless it is soaked beforehand.
