Seed Mixtures
Most producers of foods for birds offer mixes of various types of seed, in some cases for particular purposes, such as provision of quickly usable energy or suitability for tubular feeders. Such mixtures normally contain those seeds commonly used as foods for birds, for example sunflower seed and peanuts, perhaps combined with cereals like oats and wheat, and sometimes less well known ingredients such as the following:
- canary seed, derived from an exotic grass and also obtainable separately;
- hemp seed, which is small and so very well suited to tits and the smaller finches;
- millet seed, which is also tiny in its grain size and is much used for cagebirds.
