Suet
A very valuable form of fat which can be fed to birds in lumps on a hanging wooden skewer as well as being offered in more obvious ways. Siskins seem to prefer suet to be somewhat "ripe", so perhaps it could be left for a while for their benefit. It can also be used as the basis of bird cakes, mixed with other ingredients such as sunflower seed and cereals.A Bird On! Definition from the Encyclopaedia of Birdcare
