Summer Visitors
Birds which live in a particular area for the breeding season only, moving to a warmer climate for the winter. Most such species are insectivorous birds, swallows and flycatchers being good examples, migrating south to avoid the shortage of food in winter. Relatively few garden birds are summer visitors, although some apparent residents may be partial migrants, with local breeders moving elsewhere for the winter, to be replaced by winter visitors from further north, as may happen with Song Thrushes and Robins.A Bird On!
