Lesser Crested Tern
Sterna bengalensis
A long-time favourite, and star of TV programmes, Elsie has paired and produced several young with a male Sandwich Tern on the Farne Islands, Northumbria from 1984. One of these hybrids has also returned there to breed with a Sandwich Tern.
