Bee-Eater (European Bee-Eater)
Merops apiaster
A pair tried to breed in 1920 in Midlothian but the female died. Three pairs settled in a sand pit, using Sand Martin holes, in Sussex in 1955 and two raised young. Birds overshooting in spring seem to be increasing and further, sporadic, breeding might occur.
