Kentish Plover

This bird, named after an English county, is extinct in Britain. Many, perhaps hundreds, of pairs bred in Kent and Sussex 150 years ago but regular breeding, following much persecution, ceased in about 1931. Few sporadic records since then with the last in Lincolnshire 1979. The regular nesting on the Channel Islands ceased in 1975. Outlook continuing grim.
