Lapland Bunting (Lapland Longspur)
Calcarius lapponicus
Following a late, cold, spring in 1977, when there were a lot of spring reports, breeding probably took place at five sites (up to 16 pairs) and there were up to six in 1978 and in 1979 up to 14. They then fizzled out with one pair in 1980 and only one bird ion 1981 just like 1968 and 1974. Since then single birds have been recorded in 1989, 1995 and 1997 (twice). Was the burst of breeding just a tease?
